I did a lot of research on colonial (and later, precolonial) history to get the aesthetic right. And while it would be a lot of work, at least I was working from a place of familiarity. I’ve always wanted to try a historical legacy challenge and this was the story I was most confident in telling. When I began creating San Simeon, I wanted a setting where I could play out a legacy challenge themed to Filipino history.
